The Manager's Position on The Scottish Club

McKenna referred to the Glasgow giants as "a really big football club" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and led them to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they won just four games last season as they were demoted back to the second division and they presently occupy 12th in England's second tier.

"There have been any of those discussions," the London-born former Northern Ireland youth international said when asked about being on the candidate list.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my concentration is currently.

"I possess a unique position here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important phase of the season. Everything outside of that hasn't reached my awareness."

Context and Contractual Details

Reports indicate that McKenna would be willing to talk to Celtic given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about these. "I don't think all people has to publicly and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a really big sports organization."

McKenna agreed to a fresh four-year contract in 2024 and was questioned about his alleged £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he replied. "I don't know what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you regardless!

"I approach this job like I will remain Ipswich manager indefinitely. I know that's not always going to be the case, but I will consistently do my best as long as I remain in position."

Bellamy's Situation

Bellamy played for Celtic on loan from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the former Welsh forward is minded to complete the current global tournament campaign, a stance that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Glasgow position.

The Welsh squad are currently third in their qualifying group behind group toppers the Red Devils and runners-up North Macedonia.

Victories over Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in November would book their position in the qualification play-offs, but they are virtually assured of making those, due to a successful Nations League performance, should they not finish as their group second place.

Considering his present position, the Wales manager, whose contract concludes after Euro 2028, would not be available until following the qualifying matches at the minimum.
