The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.
The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
As the debut season of the hit series reaching its finale—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.
About the Overwhelming Fan Response
It would be easy to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and online debates regarding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to avoid both.
“It's like being force fed your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's amazing, but I learn of it from others, and that's by design. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”
In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.
“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by what people are saying.”
“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.
A Pressing Query: Will the creator Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?
Given that the creative staff are not listening by public opinion, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… with some caveats.
“We have some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” he states. “but we are always ready to throw out a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”
Then again, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.
“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Then again, one could always use the iconic TV endings?
“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.
Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
