Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his position after a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the team's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win naturally but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them after this game so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented recurring shortcomings from his team in their European loss, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase like this with results so bad.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
