After a crucial victory at the Lusail Grand Prix, the reigning world champion has substantially narrowed the deficit in the championship standings. He now finds himself just a dozen points behind leader McLaren's Lando Norris and in front of teammate Oscar Piastri, the stage is set for a nail-biting three-way title decider at the iconic Yas Marina Circuit.

The reversal began with major car developments introduced by his team at the Italian Grand Prix. Modifications to the vehicle's underbody and aerodynamic package solved ongoing handling problems, allowing the driver to push to the limit with the car once more.

Following those upgrades, his form has been nothing short of spectacular, achieving five wins and several top-three finishes. He was quick to credit the collective effort behind this resurgence.

"We have achieved victories where maybe the odds were against us, through the right call as a team," he noted. "The partnership with my race engineer and the every member... we are perfectly synchronized."

Ahead of the travel to Abu Dhabi, the points situation is perfectly defined.

• Lando Norris is in position to win his maiden world title if he finishes ahead of both Verstappen and Piastri or secures a podium finish.
• Max Verstappen has to take the checkered flag first and needs that Norris is not in the top three.
• Oscar Piastri, who is by sixteen points, has to win the race and witness Norris finish sixth or worse.
