King to Share Intimate Address on Cancer in TV Programme

The Monarch has taped a intimate address regarding his experience with cancer, which will be broadcast as part of this year's annual cancer awareness campaign, organised by medical research organisations and Channel 4.

The royal household said the King would talk about his "path to recovery" as a person living with the disease, in a recorded address on this Friday at 8pm UK time.

The recording, recorded at his London residence recently, will stress the vital significance of routine screenings to ensure more people diagnose the condition at an early stage.

This will be a infrequent public commentary on the health of the Monarch, who has been undergoing regular treatment since revealing his diagnosis in early last year. Analysts suggest doubtful the King will disclose his specific form of cancer.

Awareness Central Purpose

The Stand Up To Cancer campaign each year generates donations for medical research and treatment and prompts people to get screenings to improve the probability of an early diagnosis.

The King's relative openness about his condition, and his experience as a patient, has been designed to increase understanding and to persuade more people to get checked - and this will be taken a step further with this exceptional royal involvement.

Up until now the King's key philosophy to his cancer has been to keep working, upholding a hectic timetable despite his frequent sessions of therapy, and he seems not to have desired to be characterised by his illness.

Recently has seen the King, 77, taking several foreign visits, notably to Italy and Canada, and hosting the highest tally of inward state visits to the UK for almost 40 years, including the German president recently.

Charity Broadcast Event

The upcoming charity broadcast on Channel 4, presented by presenters such as a team of famous hosts, will encourage people not to be afraid of getting health screenings.

All three have been personally touched by cancer - Davina McCall disclosed in November she had had an operation for breast cancer, while Balding was diagnosed with a thyroid condition over a decade ago. Presenter Adam Hills has previously discussed his late father, who had stomach cancer and then later blood cancer.

The programme will target the roughly millions of people in the UK who health organisations says are not current with national health programmes, with an online checker to let people check if they are able for examinations for key health indicators.

In an effort to demystify health tests and illustrate the value of prompt detection there will be a real-time transmission from hospital departments at two Cambridge hospitals in Cambridge.

"The goal is to reduce the stigma out of preventative tests and show all people that they are not isolated in this," commented a presenter.

Understanding Screening Programmes

Right now in the UK, there are several key NHS cancer screening programmes - for bowel, breast and cervical cancer - offered to eligible individuals.

A new scheme for lung health is also being slowly rolled out for people at high risk of contracting the condition, specifically targeting people in a specific age bracket, who have a smoking history or were former smokers.

Individuals may enquire about prostate cancer checks, but there is not a universal scheme operational.

Funding Research

The charity initiative, which has collected over one hundred million pounds since 2012, is funding 73 medical projects with 13,000 patients.

His Majesty, in a statement for dignitaries at a reception for related organisations in the spring, had spoken of acknowledging the "daunting and at times alarming situation" for patients and their support networks.

But he noted his experience of managing cancer had revealed that "the most difficult times of illness can be illuminated by the support of carers," as he thanked those who supported those receiving treatment.

Official sources has not made public what kind of cancer the King has, or what treatment he has undergone. The King's cancer was detected subsequent to he had undergone a medical treatment.
