Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, including the soft-colored suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

Price's death comes less than a month after he presented his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in shaping body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included a number of outfits for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry laments the passing to a authentic original whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
