Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:

  • Every squad has just eight human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode delivers on its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for players seeking different ways to enjoy the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are mad.

Player Reactions: Anger to Support

"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Community Input

All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
